Site Page -: Spent two glorious weeks in 1991 driving
around with no plans other than being back in Dublin a particular day to
catch a flight back to the states! We framed our rental car map as our
best momento because we drew a black line around our whole trip. My suggestions:
The Irish Tourism Board (like P above said) is a great help. For a pound
or two they will book you B&B and give you a print out of directions.
They are truly wonderful and each location is scrutinized for quality.
They are in many cities throughout. The medieval feast at Bunratty Castle
is cheesy but well worth the time and money. We laughed and ate and enjoyed
the charm of a 1600's castle. Kiss the Blarney stone but then get out of
town - way too touristy for words! Bus tours a plenty! If going to Dublin,
try one town down Dunlaoghaire (Dun - Leary). The Murphys' were wonderful
hosts,
including getting up at 5:30 am to fix us breakfast before our boat trip
back to England. DeSelby's (spelling?) is an excellent little restaurant
off the beaten path. The owner himself spoiled us rotten! While everyone
defines their own trips, we highly recommend that you just spend your time
away from the obvious. Some of our fondest memories - a haircut and conversation
with the barber in Westport, etching carvings from 300 year old grave stones
in Yaghl, watching a movie in an old movie-house theatre in Killarney.
Enjoy the people as much as they genuinely enjoy sharing there country!
How we envy you!! -
